Off-Campus Recitals

OFF-CAMPUS UNDERGRADUATE DEGREE RECITALS

After reviewing the NASM requirements regarding documentation of undergraduate degree recitals, it was determined that the College of Music is not required to archive recordings of undergraduate recitals. Therefore if a student chooses, and is approved by faculty, to hold their Senior degree recital off-campus, they do not have to provide a copy of their recital recording for records.

The COM does not provide recording support for off-campus events and the student will opt out of this service provided for Senior degree recitals held in COM venues.

Please note that the student will still need to submit a Roomview online reservation system recital request for this event. We still need to know it is occurring, approved and advertised as a degree recital.

  • Recital occurs within the allowed recital deadline for the semester. The Friday before jury week.
  • Select “off-campus” as the venue.
  • In the “additional information” section provide the name & address of the venue.
It is preferred that the student use a COM standard recital start time so patrons may attend other COM events on the same day. However, it is understood that outside venues may have different times available to use and this may not be possible.
  • The student will be sent an email once I process their request on how to proceed with approval and program information.
  • Once the approval process is completed, their event will appear on the COM online calendar.

OFF-CAMPUS GRADUATE DEGREE RECITALS

Graduate recitals are required to be documented with a recording copy in our archives by NASM, except for GAC recitals. A GAC recital is, in NASM terms, a recital for a non-degree program, so a recording is not required.

If a graduate student chooses to pursue an exception for an off-campus performance venue for a degree recital then they are required to seek permission from the Graduate Performance Degree Committee or if a GAC student, the Director of Graduate Studies. If a recording is required the student will be advised on how to proceed with this process of turning in a copy by the COM Graduate Office, CH211. Again, the student will opt out of recording services provided to graduate recitals held in COM venues.

Once approved by the GPDC or Director of Graduate Studies, the student will need to submit a recital request in the Roomview online reservation system:

  • Recital occurs within the allowed recital deadline for the semester. The Friday before jury week.
  • Select “off-campus” as their venue.
  • In the “additional information” section provide the name & address of the venue.
  • Again, standard recital start times are preferred, but not required.
  • The student will be sent an email once I process their request on how to proceed with recital approval and program information.
  • Once the approval process is completed, their event will appear on the COM online calendar.

Please make note that non-degree recitals by students in outside venues do not need to file a Roomview Recital Request online unless they are a GAC recital.
